Brian's Experiences

"My name is Brian, I have been a voluntary driver for the Daventry Area Community Transport (D.A.C.T) since 1994 when it was in its infancy. I had taken early retirement and needed to find something to do that I would enjoy, and as I enjoy driving and meeting people this gave me the chance to do both. I first started driving the mini-bus; we only had one then (we now have 6!) taking groups out on half or full day trips to places like the Cotwolds, shopping trips, pub lunches. even to the coast for holidays. We have grown a lot since those days and have some lovely new buses and a good team of drivers, but we are always looking for more.
The area on which I concentrate mostly now is the voluntary car scheme, where I use my own car to take people to any medical appointment, i.e. hospitals, medical centres, dentists, when they can't use public transport through ill health or where
transport is not available.
It have been a very rewarding experience for me. I have been a part of a dedicated team of volunteers putting something back into the community and I have made a good number of friends in the process.
Also as this scheme is completely voluntary, you can do as little or as much as you want to. So if you have a few hours a week to spare why not put it to good use and become a
VOLUNTARY DRIVER."?
